Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Also known as polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), omega-3 fatty acids play a vital role in brain function as well as regular growth and development. Although they are vital to human health, the human body is unable to produce Omega-3 fatty acids. Therefore, they must be consumed from food or supplements for the brain.

Recent research indicates that fatty acids play an important role in the development and treatment of mood disorders. That is because Omega-3 fatty acids help nerve cells communicate with each other, which is vital for maintaining good mental health. Evidence from epidemiological, case-control and randomized clinical trials found that Omega-3 was shown to affect mood via its ant-inflammatory effects. For example, research found that Omega-3 can be effective as an additional treatment for patients with treatment-resistant depression. It has also shown to help childhood depression.

Other studies show that there is a connection between changes in blood fatty acid composition and visual sustained attention performance in children with inattention. Finally, recent research suggests that dietary fish or fish oil rich in Omega-3 may help prevent Alzheimer’s disease.

While it is important to maintain a healthy diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acid foods, we also offer pills for the brain--BrainOmega.
